The Center presents
Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra: By George! The Pops Play Gershwin
at the Palladium
Sunday, April 2 at 7pm | $65-$145
Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra bring their own unique swagger to the rarely performed original Paul Whiteman Orchestra version of Rhapsody in Blue and a world-premiere reconstruction of Whiteman’s tight and jazzy arrangement of An American in Paris. Hear this music as Gershwin first heard it in the 1920s! Then go right to the heart of the Great American Songbook with classics like "The Man I Love," "They Can’t Take That Away From Me" and "Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off."
Having celebrated his 20th anniversary as Boston Pops Conductor in 2015, Lockhart is the second longest-tenured conductor of the orchestra since its founding in 1885. Following in the footsteps of predecessors John Williams and Arthur Fiedler, he has conducted nearly 1,800 Boston Pops concerts.
Joining the orchestra for this performance will be pianist Michael Chertok and vocalists Justin Hopkins and Erica Spyres.
